Rally is a sport in which the dog and handler proceed at thier own pace throught a course of 10-20 designated stations that have signs providing instructions regarding the next skill to be performed.
There should be a sense of teamwork between the dog and handler during and between the exercises, however a perfect "heel position" is not required. The team is on its own to complete the entire sequence of numbered signs correctly.
Unlimited communication from the handler to the dog is to be encouraged. The main objective of rally is to produce dogs that have been trained to behave in the home and in the community, and perform in trials. To enter a Rally Trial, the dog must be at least 6 months of age and be registered with the AKC or listed with the AKC Indefinite Listing Privileg
